Qingshui Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The name was proposed by the Jiangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1981;the type section is located from Qingshui of Xiushui County to Qiaotou of Wuning County in Jiangxi Province (Jiangxi Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, 1984).
Synonym: (清水组) . The Jiangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey (1963) used to propose a name the Qiaotou Fm, which is a repetition of an existing Precambrian stratigraphic name in Liaoning Province and, hence, has to be changed into the present name the Qingshui Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
The formation, about 940 m thick, is characterized by purplish red sandy pelite and sandstone, intercalated with gray green, yellow green sandy pelite and sandstone.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests conformably onto the underlying Dianbei Fm
Upper contact
It rests conformably below the overlying Xiajiaqiao Fm.
Regional extent
The formation is distributed along the northern margin of the Jiangnan old land, getting thinner northwards with purplish red strata decreasing and thinning and sandy particles getting finer. The Qingshui Fm can roughly be correlated with the Rongxi Fm.
GeoJSON
Fossils
The fossils contained are rare; only bivalve Modiolopsis, Modiomorpha are seldom found in several layers. The overlying strata bear type fauna commonly found in the Xiushan Fm of the Upper Yangtze Subprovince.
